Every single horse plays an unwilling host to parasites. Therefore, as horse owners it’s your responsibility to help protect against parasite risks.
Traditionally, horses were treated with a paste or gel dewormer every 6-8 weeks. These treatments can dramatically reduce adult worms as well as some larval stages, but they typically only purge the horse of existing threats, clearing the horse’s system in 24-48 hours.

Pfizer Animal Health’s trusted STRONGID© C 2X (pyrantel tartrate) daily dewormer is a safe, efficient and effective way to help protect against parasites. Many top performance riders rely on the benefits of STRONGID C 2X to ensure that their horses look and feel their best and are ready to perform.
“Competing in high profile shows such as the National Reining Horse Association’s (NRHA) Futurity and the Quarter Horse Congress, my horses need to be performance-ready every time out,” said Matt Palmer, NRHA Life Time Member and FEI Member. “STRIONGID C 2X is easy to use, safe and effective, taking the worry out of my parasite control program and allowing me to concentrate on doing my job.”
A strategic parasite control and prevention plan may include daily deworming with STRONGID® C or STRONGID C 2X during times of the year when the horse is exposed to high parasite pressures, such as the spring and summer. Use of a daily dewormer helps break the parasite lifecycle, preventing reinfection and costly tissue damage. For the most effective, long-lasting protection, Pfizer Animal Health experts advise using a purge dewormer such as QUEST® (moxidectin) or QUEST® PLUS (moxidectin/praziquantel) Gel in the spring and fall, then immediately begin daily deworming with STRONGID C 2X.
Always consult a veterinarian before starting or changing any parasite protection plan. They can best assist in the diagnosis, treatment and control of parasitism for each individual horse and advise how long your horse should stay on STRONGID C 2X.
“Many top riders initially choose STRONGID C 2X for its parasite control benefits, but then stay on the product due to its unexpected benefits of improved coat condition and overall well-being,” said Tom Lenz, DVM, MS, Diplomate ACT and Senior Director, Equine Veterinary Services for Pfizer Animal Health. “The proven results of STRONGID C 2X speak for their selves, often causing trainers or barn managers to advise entire facilities to put their horses on the product.”
STRONGID C 2X has proven time again to not only offer protection against parasites but has also shown to improve coat and body condition. However, even with these performance enhancing benefits, your veterinarian is still the best person to determine whether your horse is a good candidate for STRONGID C 2X. Several factors should be carefully evaluated before including STRONGID C 2X into your program including, high-risk age groups, including foals, weanlings, and geriatric horses; effects of parasite prevention in medically debilitated animals; seasonal factors and exposure to high levels of infective eggs and larvae; and environmental sanitation efforts to help reduce pasture contamination and risk or reinfection.
Many veterinarians today are offering tests to determine fecal egg counts, levels of shedding and type of parasites infecting your horse. Using all of this information, they will then develop an individualized deworming (I.D.), plan for your horse – often including daily deworming with STRONGID C 2X into that plan.
“As a professional event rider and trainer, I not only frequently travel with my own horses to train and compete, but I also have a steady stream of client horses that come in for training,” said Lynn Symansky, Four Star Eventing Rider, Trainer, Coach and Clinician. “Keeping my entire barn on STRONGID C 2X puts me at ease. Not only am I assured my horses are protected, I know they are working at their best. Time and time again I have seen a noticeable difference in each horse’s coat, overall body condition and performance level after starting them on STRONGID C 2X.”

Foals may be administered with STRONGID C or STRONGID C 2X as soon as consistent intake of grain mix is occurring. This is generally between two to three months of age. STRONGID C or STRONGID C 2X may be used in mares as any stage of pregnancy or lactation. Stallion fertility is not adversely affected by the use of STRONGID C or STRONGID C 2X.
