Does your horse kick up when you cue for the canter? Maybe you need some help learning how to ask for the canter.

Let Julie Goodnight show you the way!
I used my iPhone to shoot this video of Julie Goodnight riding her new colt Eddie to teach canter cues during Julie Goodnight’s  Women’s Riding and Yoga Retreats and Ranch Riding Weekend at C Lazy U Ranch” in Granby, Colorado.

  1. Boy I was really hoping this video would shed some light on how to give your horse a canter cue but she really never got to the main point in this video. :(

  2. Hi, Laura,

She does say it in the video, about one minute in: Outside leg, inside rein, and push with your seat.

But first, prepare him for the cue by picking up on the reins, sitting up straight and closing your calves on the horse.

Then nudge your horse with your outside leg, lift the inside rein, and push with your seat as if you were sitting in a swing and pushing it.

So I say to myself, “Outside leg…inside rein…push with your seat.”

    I hope this helps!

    Amy
