Equimax – the leading horse industry employment service since 1986, has launched
a study of horse industry compensation. Finally, information on salaries, benefits, housing,
vacation, commissions, bonuses, and more will be available for horse industry
jobs free of charge (for a
limited time.) Employers will be able to use the results to compare their
compensation packages to those of their competition, and job seekers will be
able to get a better idea of what they are worth to employers.
The study has been under
development for several months. Pam Marett of Practical Concepts
Management is the design consultant. Practical Concepts Management has
done compensation studies for city governments and major air lines. Having
solid data on compensation is as critical to anyone operating a horse business
or building a career working with horses, as it is in any other industry.
Major providers of compensation data such as the web site salaries.com do not
have any significant amount of data on horse industry jobs.
28 different job
types are covered in the study
including Stable Help, Groom, Breeding Farm Assistant, Barn Manager, Riding
Instructor, Trainer(show), Trainer(race), Breeding Manager, Trail
Guide/Wrangler, Exercise Rider, Farm Manager, Maintenance Person, Administrative
Assistant and more. Study results will include data on rates of pay,
bonuses, commissions, overtime, housing, insurance benefits, retirement plans,
length of work week, stabling for employee horses, and more. In addition,
information will be collected on type of operation, breeds, disciplines, number
of employees, and number of horses. All information about the identity of
those who participate in the study will be kept strictly
confidential.
Any horse industry
employees and farm and stable owners with compensation data to provide are
eligible to participate in the study. Participation takes about 10-30
minutes depending on the number of job types entered. For a limited time, anyone
who provides compensation data on at least one job will be given free access to
the results. This free access will not expire. Participants may
return to view results as many times as they like and see developing trends as
more data is received. Participants may also return to the study at any
time to enter data on additional job types.
Anyone with internet
access and horse industry job data to provide may participate in the study
